We encourage all members of the community to get involved. The Shepherd’s Center of Raytown welcomes citizens of all ages to join us in the following programs:
Adventures in Learning – Your education doesn’t have to end even long after you’ve graduated. These stimulating classes are offered the 4th Friday of every month, January through November. Come join us at Raytown Christian Church. The program begins with registration at 9:00 am with breakfast bites and coffee, then class sessions before lunch and then a noon speaker with lunch (reservations are required for lunch). Each class is $1 and lunch is $6.
Book Club – Join us at the Shepherd’s Center Office (5110 Westridge Circle) on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 2:00 to 4:00 pm for a discussion on our book-of-the-moment. Get to know one another and stimulate your mind through the wonderful world of reading.
Bouncing Back – Recovering from a loss isn’t easy, and sometimes life isn’t either. If you’re struggling with life’s challenges, including health concerns, deaths, a change in relationship or job status, family problems, or anything else, please join this educational and social support group. We welcome you to attend our open, drop-in sessions from 1:30 to 2:30 pm on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at One Spirit United Methodist Church. Provided in collaboration with Crossroads Hospice and One Spirit United Methodist Church. Discussions are facilitated by Pam Dimsdale, Bereavement Coordinator with Crossroads Hospice.
Breaktime Club – Both caregivers and receivers need a break every now and then. We provide a safe and enriching social environment for older adults with limitations. It takes place every Monday from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm at Blue Ridge Boulevard United Methodist Church. Discussions are facilitated by Beth Huliska, LCSW, Grief Support Services with Crossroads Hospice. Contact Us so we can get you in contact with the Program Manager so you can get signed up.
Exercise Group – Get moving with our experienced instructors. These heart-healthy, low-impact classes are held in St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church’s gym every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 AM.
T’ai Chi Chih – This slow, rhythmic exercise routine can easily be done by almost everyone. Classes are held each Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 am at One Spirit United Methodist Church. Come join us for a soothing, meditative session. If you’re interested, please contact us so we can put you in contact with their office. The current class is for experienced participants.
